Producta50: An
Introduction to some of the Relations Between Culture and the Economy
This volume consists on a compilation of texts which, from different
viewpoints and approaches, seek to define a framework and trigger a
reflection around the relations established between the spheres of
culture and the economy, understanding the complex relations derived
from these two areas and their possible consequences and repercussions.
The different articles that constitute this book have been written by a
wide range of culture researchers, anthropologists, economists,
sociologists or activists, and with their contributions they open up a
series of questions and debates which we would like to define as the
economic reality of culture.
In this book we see how a set of different axes or themes start
emerging such as debates around cultural policies, gentrification,
brand production processes, value of culture, copyright, knowledge and
skills, markets, cities, care and, obviously, cultural work. These help
to understand a complex scenery in which two spheres, culture and
economy, compete, collide, and sometimes coexist without willing to
acknowledge each other. In this book one can not expect to find
solutions or answers on how to escape the precariousness of the field
or how to deal with the creative industries, but it helps to start an
analysis on an ever-changing and unstructured work field, which now, is
starting to invade a number of contemporary work realities.
